Microsoft Office Security Settings

The security settings for your Microsoft Office applications control the security of your Microsoft Office installation against attacks by viruses and other malware. For Microsoft Office 2007 or 2010 applications, each application's security settings are in the Trust Center settings under each application's Options menu:

For Office 2003, the security settings are in the Security tab of the Options menu:

Composer is fully functional under the tightest possible Microsoft Office security settings. These include the following:

  • No Trusted Publishers;
  • No Trusted Locations;
  • No Trusted Documents;
  • Disable all Application Add-ins;
  • Disable all ActiveX Controls;
  • Disable all macros without notification;
  • Enable Protected View for files originating from the Internet;
  • Enable Protected View for files located in potentially unsafe locations;
  • Enable Protected View for Outlook attachments; and
  • Enable Data Execution Prevention mode.
